"The Cornerstone of any Nutritious Breakfast"

I've had two consecutive days off this week. Crazy, I know, but that's only because I pulled yet another double shift earlier on, right after I promised myself I would never do that again. Gah.

I'm still weighing my options on my work situation. I've noticed there have been a lot of layoffs in the past couple of weeks and I'm thinking that's why the only job I've found in the right driving distance, with the right number of hours, and with the right $$ an hour was one that I could never do. It was a job at the State Hospital. And before anyone wonders, "well, what does that matter". Perhaps I need to reintroduce myself. Hi, I'm Claire, I almost drove myself nuts in a relationship trying to fix a high functioning clinically depressed, narcissistic, manipulative, self-flagellating slacker/pathological liar, and I'm not really looking to go down that road again, thanks.

Anyway, I've watched way more TV and movies these few days than I did all last month. My sis has me watching Psych which I enjoyed. It's fun and fluffy- and it doesn't hurt that the guy who plays Sean's a cutie.

I stumbled across Eureka myself and I watched all 12 episodes of season one in the last twenty four hours. Can I just say that Ed Quinn is mmmMmmmm good?

Yes?

Okay, good.

My mom and brother got me to watch Lakeview Terrace, which I thought I was going to hate, but actually found entertaining despite some of the disturbing subject matter. Everyone else in the movie fell flat for me. The acting was IMO, so-so. I think there was more chemistry between Samuel L. Jackson and the husband than between the couple.

I have a confession: I can't keep myself from laughing when Samuel L. Jackson turns the crazy/angry inner beast on. He's crazy good at it (You know you loved the scene in Pulp Fiction when he's busting those losers in the apartment and he tries the hamburger-"This is a tasty burger!" right before he starts quoting scripture and he and Travolta kill everyone. Or the "What?" scene. How could you not? They're classic!).

Wanna refresher? Here ya go. It is a Tarantino movie though, so prepare for the copius swearing:

I also watched the newest Underworld: Rise of the Lycans which had its moments. Overall, I wasn't too impressed. The first two movies were more entertaining. There was a lot of overacting. I think that's what bugged me. It worked for the guy who played the Vampire father but for everyone else, blech. Am I the only one who wanted to sing the "We are the Titans" song after seeing the title of this one?

Yes?

Okay. I'll shut up now.

Just needed to do some blabbing before bedtime.

Stockholm Syndrome

Today is the day of the inauguration which I didn't watch since I was at work. People have been talking about it all day and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, I'm thrilled because of the American public's newly revived optimism and faith in our government, on the other hand I'm a bit apprehensive about all of the promises made on the campaign trail. Outstanding orator or not, President Obama is still a politician and if I've learned anything in the last 10 years or so, it's the fact that politicians lie and renege on promises. Not that I'm not proud of his achievement-just about everyone that knows me on this site is all too aware of my political leanings-but I'm sorry to say I've become jaded. In summation, Claire is thrilled but in the camp of the "let's-wait-and-seers". Enough about politics...

And onto my New Year's Resolution!! I'm a vegetarian now and have been since the first. Not a vegan; there's no way I can give up my chocolate, Starbucks, and cheese. I feel a lot healthier so I'm happy with my decision. Hardest part is switching up the menu and explaining to everyone why I only eat the fries when the gang hits a burger joint.

Life so far has been...well interesting. Still have the same crappy job but I've been offered positions elsewhere (none that really appealed to me) and that's boosted my ego to the point where I've applied at several jobs I know will interest me. A new job is on my list of resolutions, so whoo me! Claire's on a roll baby.

Next resolution is to frickin' get proficient in guitar already. I've had it for over a year and I'm still playing the songs out of the front of the book. Lame. I'm hoping I can take lessons at one of the music places downtown.

My love life is nonexistent and you know what, I'm not the least bit sad about it. Joe and I have a lot in common, but he's flakey. He Who Must Not be Named was flakey. I can't f*cking stand flakey. There were just a lot of small things that would make huge problems. Namely, he's older than me so he's looking for kids and marriage and as for me, well:Me: 'Hello, my name is Claire and I'm a commitmentphobe'.

I'm honestly not looking to have any of that for the next 5 years if I can help it. One of my friends is going through a nasty divorce right now and another friend of mine who's freaking seventeen years old is getting married and if anything, all of that craziness has strengthened my resolve; So many people are in a rush to do things and they get to regret it in leisure for the rest of their lives. I don't care if I am the last one married or pregnant out of all my friends, or if I never am. I'm not on a timeline and I don't need a marriage or children to validate myself. I know my strengths and assets. And I'm getting off the soapbox now or I'll never want to get off...

There's not a whole lot else going on really. My sleep schedule is all effed up-I stay up about three days in a row and then sleep 13 hours-but the good news is I've been using that time I'm not sleeping to write (another resolution!). I'm doing it under a different pen name in the hopes that it'll be judged by its merit alone. And before you say, 'well why the holy hell wouldn't it be Claire?' I'll just say that in the past, the stories I've poured my heart/soul into have been scarcely a blip on the radar but the ones borne outta who knows what have been hits, so it's a real concern, to me anyway.

I'll be going to my first wedding next month and getting closer to the quarter century mark soon. Gotta say, my birthday rivals Christmas as my favorite day of the year because I LOVE birthday cake. Mmmmmm. And now that I've made myself seriously consider going to the store and buying a 1/2 pint of birthday cake ice cream, I'm going to sign off for the day.

p.s. okay so it was the 20th when I started this post and what with my ADD and everything it is now 2:17 AM and there is someone setting off fireworks on my street. I never thought I'd see the day my little backwoods town accepted a democrat much less a black democrat. This is definitely one for the records...
